The Bordeaux Glass was designed for enjoying fuller-bodied, tannic red wines. They are taller than other red wine glasses, and has a slimmer bowl. The tall size allows the bouquet of the wine to develop, smooth out rough edges, play down tannins, and allow the wine to achieve balance. The slimmer bowl directs the wine to the back of your mouth for a maximum taste. |
Raboso translates locally to "rabid" or "angry", because of aggressive tannins.
The Raboso grape is the main grape in the DOCG wines Piave Malanotte and Bagnoli Friularo blends.
In Veneto it became known as the "wine of travel", thanks to its ability to withstand aging and travel, and was popular among Venetian navigators.
Friularo di Bagnoli DOCG is one of the newer titles in Veneto (2011). It covers red wines from the southern half of the Padova region. In the DOCG there are also two sweet styles: Passito and Vendemmia Tardiva.
Sweet Vendemmia Tardiva has been a part of the area's wine production for centuries. The grapes used to make this late harvest wine were traditionally harvested on Saint Martin's Day (November 11).
