The Sauvignon Blanc glass is smaller than a Chardonnay glass. It has a more narrow bowl to concentrate the crisp and citrusy aromas characteristic of zesty and fruity white wines. |
Vernaccia is known for its crisp and fruity profile. It pairs well with a variety of cheeses.
Opt for cheeses with moderate saltiness and creaminess to balance the wine's acidity. You can also add accompaniments like fresh fruits (grapes, apples, pears), nuts (almonds, walnuts), and a light drizzle of honey to enhance the pairing.
Mozzarella: Its delicate flavor pairs well with the wine's lightness.
Ricotta: Especially good if served with a drizzle of honey or fresh fruits.
Goat Cheese (Chèvre): The tanginess complements the subtle fruit notes in Vernaccia.
Fontina: Its nutty, buttery qualities make a good match.
Brie: The creamy texture and mild flavor work beautifully with Vernaccia.
Camembert: Similar to Brie but with slightly more earthiness.
Asiago: Lightly aged Asiago adds a complementary tang to the wine.
Manchego: A classic Spanish pairing, especially younger Manchego, which is less intense.
Gruyère: Mildly nutty and sweet, enhancing the wine's subtlety.
Robiola: Its mild creaminess contrasts nicely without overpowering the wine.
Vernaccia di San Gimignano boasts three different types, based on the degree of complexity, intensity and evolution of the wine.
Vernaccia annata is a fresh and accommodating wine aged in steel, to be drunk young.
Vernaccia Cru is a selections of grapes from individual vineyards particularly suitable for refinement and matured in wood.
Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva is the top range of production of the most suited crus and wines with great aging potential capable of maturing aromas of great finesse, which often accompany notes of hydrocarbons, iodine, minerals, and chalk.

Soft and crumbly, marl-like clay-limestone and dense sandstone in the Apennine foothills.
Sandy clay around San Gimignano.
Gravelly clay and sandy soils in the Bolgheri and Maremma areas.
The climate is Mediterranean with dry, hot summers; warm springs; and mild, rainy autumns and winters.
Variations in altitude, exposition, and diurnal temperatures in the foothills contribute to climatic conditions that help balance the sugar, acidity, and aromatics in the grapes.
Coastal areas like Bolgheri and Val di Cornia tend to be more temperate.
Alcohol can be addictive. Always drink in moderation.
