Australian Wine Regions

Winemaking

Australia is a large and diverse wine-producing country, with wine regions spread across the continent.

Each region has its own unique terroir, unique grape varieties, unique winemaking traditions, and unique styles of wine, contributing to a rich Australian wine culture.

Geographical Indications (GI)

In Australia, as in many other countries, GI defines a designated wine region (like Margaret River).

An 85% rule applies in Australia. Wines labelled “Margaret River” must contain at least 85% Margaret River fruit, to uphold label integrity and safeguard the consumer.
