The Bordeaux Glass was designed for enjoying fuller-bodied, tannic red wines. They are taller than other red wine glasses, and has a slimmer bowl. The tall size allows the bouquet of the wine to develop, smooth out rough edges, play down tannins, and allow the wine to achieve balance. The slimmer bowl directs the wine to the back of your mouth for a maximum taste. |
Abruzzo has 2 pure Montepulciano DOCGs and 2 DOCs.
Under most of the DOC requirements, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo must contain from 80 to 100% Montepulciano grapes and up to 20% other grapes (Sangiovese).
Name | DOC(G) | Grapes |
---|---|---|
Colline Teramane Montepulciano d’Abruzzo | DOCG 2003 | 90% Montepulciano |
Terre Tolesi - Tullum | DOCG 2019 | 95% Montepulciano |
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo | DOC 1968 | 85% Montepulciano |
Villamagna DOC | DOC 2011 | 95% Montepulciano |
The Rosé (Rosato) style of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is called Cerasuolo (Cherry). With aromas of orange peel, cinnamon, strawberry and dried cherries, it is a perfect match to Mediterranean and International food:
Name | DOC(G) | Grapes |
---|---|---|
Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Rosato | DOC 2010 | 85% Montepulciano |
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo should not be confused with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a Tuscan wine made mainly from Sangiovese.
Abruzzo has a mediterranean climate, with hot summers and cold winters, which makes it ideal for growing wine grapes.
The soil varies from clayey and calcareous in the coastal areas to rocky and sandy in the mountains.
