Grechetto is often blended with Malvasia, Chardonnay, Verdello and Trebbiano.
Grechetto is the principal grape in Orvieto wines, together with Trebbiano.
The name Grechetto means from Greece but the DNA tests relate the Grechetto grapes to Pignoletto and Ribolla wines from Emilia Romagna.
Grechetto wines are typically dry, medium bodied whites. Vin Santo dell`Umbria is an exception: it is a sweet dessert wine produced with dried Grechetto grapes.
Grechetto Gentile grapes are cultivated in Central Italy: Umbria, Toscana, Lazio, Abruzzo and Emilia Romagna.
Umbria is characterized by rolling hills, valleys, and vineyard-covered landscapes. The region has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters.
The diverse topography and varied elevations contribute to different microclimates well suitable for grape cultivation.
The soils vary from clay and sand in the valleys to limestone and marl in the hills.
