Champagne is a wine region east of Paris.
Champagne is the most exclusive sparkling wine in the world, closely associated with victory, luxury and celebration.
The main grapes are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Typical flavors are Citrus, Yellow Fruit and Toast.
Italian Prosecco is one of the world's most famous sparkling wines.
It is produced in the regions of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The main grape is Glera.
Typical flavors are green Apple and Pear, tropical Peach and Melon.
Cava is produced the same way as Champagne.
The Penedès wine region in Catalonia produces 95% of all Cava.
The grapes used are: Macabeu, Parellada, and Xarel-lo.
Typical flavors are Citrus, Yellow Fruit, Honey and Almond.
Fortified wines are wines with added distilled spirit, usually brandy. As a consequence they have an alcohol content between 15-22%.
The sweetness of fortified wines, varies from dry to sweet.
Porto is a city in Portugal
Port is a fortified wine from Porto.
It is sweet and high in alcohol.
The main grape is Touriga Nacional.
Port is typically sweet and full bodied with black fruit flavors.
Sherry is a fortified wine from Jerez in Spain.
It can be dry, medium or sweet.
The main grape is Palomino.
Maturation under dead yeast cells (Flor) results in yeasty flavours.
Dessert wines are sweet wines with high levels of sugar.
The alcohol content of a dessert wine is between 10% an 16%.
Sauternes is a sweet dessert wine (100 - 150 g/l sugar) from Bordeaux in France.
It is Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes.
Typical flavors are: Dried Fruit. Apricot. Mango. Pineapple. Passion Fruit. Flowers. Honey. Marmelade. Nuts. Almond.
Tokaij a famous sweet wine from the Tokaj region in Hungary and Slovakia.
Typical flavors are: Citrus. Floral (Acacia. Chamomile). Barrel aging adds: Ginger. Vanilla. Coffee. Dried Fruit. Nuts. Smoke.
Alcohol can be addictive. Always drink in moderation.
