About Mavrud

Believed to date back to ancient Thrace, Mavrud is a red grape that has been grown for centuries only in the area of acient Philippopolis, north of the Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria.

Mavrud is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines.

It is native to the Balkan region and growns in Albania, in the Thrace region of Bulgaria, and some regions of Greece and Romania.

Mavrud Food Pairing

Red wines with high acidity and low tannins are always food friendly.

Mavrud goes well with most meat dishes and is also light enough to pair with chicken and fish dishes.

The Ideal Glass for Mavrud

The Bordeaux Glass was designed for enjoying fuller-bodied, tannic red wines. They are taller than other red wine glasses, and has a slimmer bowl.

The tall size allows the bouquet of the wine to develop, smooth out rough edges, play down tannins, and allow the wine to achieve balance.

The slimmer bowl directs the wine to the back of your mouth for a maximum taste.
