Frontenac is a hybrid grape varietal highly resistant to cold and disease.
Frontenac was developed in 1996 by the University of Minnesota as part of a breeding program aimed at creating grapes suitable for northern climates. It thrives well in northern U.S. states and parts of Canada.
It is used in a range of wine styles, including dry reds, rosés, and dessert wines like ice wine.
The wines are known for bold fruit flavours, high acidity, and an appealing structure.
Frontenac is known for bold fruit flavours of red fruits, black cherry, plum, and blackberry, with undertones of spice, chocolate, earthy minerality and herbal notes.
