Dornfelder is a dark-skinned red wine grape of German origin.
It was created by August Herold at the grape breeding institute in Weinsberg in Württemberg in 1955.
Dornfelder wines are known for their deep, dark color and vibrant flavors of red and dark berries, Sour Cherry, Blackberry, and Plum.
Some may have subtle floral hints or a touch of spices.
The wines can range from dry to slightly sweet, with moderate tannins and good acidity.
