Wine Pairing
Arzúa-Ulloa (Spain)

Arzúa-Ulloa (also known as Lugo cheese or Chantada cheese) is a cheese made from the milk of Galician Blond, Friesian, and Brown Alpine cattle breeds.

It can be produced using whole, raw, or pasteurized milk. Its designation of origin comes from the Arzúa and Ulloa regions in Galicia.

Arzúa-Ulloa Cheese

Sparkling Wines

Sparkling wines are incredible with soft and creamy cheeses.

Cava

Cava, a sparkling wine from Catalonia, is an excellent choice to pair with Arzúa-Ulloa. Its crisp acidity, fine bubbles, and citrusy notes provide a refreshing contrast to the cheese's creamy texture and enhance its delicate flavor.

Prosecco

Prosecco is a fantastic pairing for Arzúa-Ulloa.

The wine's bubbles, bright acidity, light body, and fruity flavors make it a delightful palate cleanser, enhancing the overall tasting experience.

Método Tradicional

Método Tradicional is the Spanish name for wines produced the same way as Champagne.

Champagne is a classic pairing for Arzúa-Ulloa.

Other Sparkling Wine

Consider pairing Arzúa-Ulloa with other dry sparkling wines like Champagne or Crémant (France), Espumante (Portugal) or Sekt (Germany).

White Wines

Vinho Verde

Vinho Verde, a light and refreshing white wine from Portugal, also pairs well with Arzúa-Ulloa. Its zesty acidity, small bubbles, and flavors of green apple and citrus provides a lively contrast to the cheese's texture and mild flavor.

Sauvignon Blanc

A light and aromatic Sauvignon Blanc from Spain or elsewhere can be a good match for Arzúa-Ulloa. Look for wines with vibrant citrus flavors, herbal notes, and a refreshing acidity to complement the cheese's mildness.

Albariño (Rías Baixas)

Albariño offers high, refreshing acidity and vibrant fruit and floral notes that cut through the creamy, unctuous texture of the Arzúa-Ulloa.

Ribeiro

Ribeiro is a fresh and versatile Galician white wine with bright acidity that complements the milky, gentle flavors of the cheese.

Light Godello or Mencía

A youthful, fruity red Mencía can work if the Arzúa-Ulloa is aged (curado), which brings out a sharper, spicier, and saltier character.

Rosé and Red Wines

Rosé

A light and fruity Rosé wine can be a versatile option for pairing with Arzúa-Ulloa. Look for a dry Rosé with flavors of strawberries, raspberries, and a hint of citrus, which can complement the cheese's mildness and add a touch of brightness to the pairing.

Gamay

Gamay, the grape variety used to make Beaujolais wines, offers bright red fruit flavors, low tannins, and a refreshing acidity. A chilled Beaujolais can provide a light and fruity contrast to Arzúa-Ulloa, making it a suitable option for casual gatherings.

Dessert Wines

Soft Cheeses also pair well with white dessert wines like Moscatel, and fortified wines like Fino Sherry (Spain) and White Port (Portugal)

Moscatel de Alejandría

Moscatel de Alejandría is a sweet wine from the Andalusia region of Spain, known for its floral aromas and flavors of ripe stone fruits. Its sweetness complements the subtle tanginess of Arzúa-Ulloa, creating a delightful pairing.

Manzanilla Sherry

Manzanilla Sherry is a dry and crisp style of Sherry from the Jerez region of Spain. It can be a refreshing pairing with Arzúa-Ulloa. Its saline notes, nutty flavors, and crisp acidity will enhance the cheese's delicate taste.
